Brian Sumner is a professional skateboarder, transplanted from Liverpool, England to Huntington Beach, California. He started skating at 13 years of age and by 15 had made it out of the land of “beans on toast”, “fish and chips” and “God Save The Queen” over to America to pursue his dreams. He first stayed with his hometown friend Geoff Rowley and the Flip crew, eventually going on to ride for Tony Hawks Birdhouse living with the likes of Andrew Reynolds, Jim Greco and Ali Boulala. Brian toured the world doing demos, entering contests and appearing in the biggest videos and magazines of the day, while riding for some of the biggest companies around like Adio, Volcom, Analog and more, which provided a steady and solid income. In 1999 Brian was married and soon he and his wife were expecting their first child. Over the course of the next few years Brian’s life faced a lot of challenges and soon he was divorced and over living. Through a year of separation Brian got into trouble requiring anger management, and end up doing community service at a Christian thrift store. While being over living, figuring he had experienced his dreams and wasn’t happy with where things were, he decided to challenge God and search for truth. After many months of study, speaking with people of different faiths, and pursuing truth as best he could, he had a life changing experience and became a Christian in 2004. “I was going to God to fix my life but He was dealing with me about my sin, about the world I was born into and about why He sent His Son Jesus to die for my sins and offer His forgiveness. I told The Lord I needed to be forgiven, and as I was repenting I said I would give my life to Jesus, get baptized, use my skateboarding for Him and even re-marry my ex-wife.” Brian had an encounter that night in prayer and his life has never been the same. Today he is re-married to Tracy, and they now have two additional kids together. Soon after becoming a Christian Brian saw the need to go and share The Gospel places rather than just continue with a career in skating where much of his time revolved around long tours and focus was on getting tricks and being in the magazines and videos. He began serving at The Sanctuary church, as a Deacon, attended two different Bible schools and began sharing Jesus through skating, at events, outreaches, in churches and many other places. Today Brian serves at The Rock Harbor in Huntington Beach, and regularly travels to share/preach/teach. He also began riding for some Christian companies with the goal of using graphics, and tours, to try and shine the light. Brian has also been part of many amazing projects and witnessing tools such as “The Uprising” reality show, the “I Am Second” video testimony series, Billy Grahams “My Hope”, the “Hardflip” movie, and “Foolishness” the Skatebible movie which Brian co-produced, wrote, and directed. He has partnered with many ministries around the world and daily looks to connect and spend his time sharing The Gospel. He and his wife also are deeply involved in Marriage Ministry. God Bless you, and for more please see the “Testimony” page.
